Grice Consulting Group was responsible for developing designs for a computerized freeway traffic management system in the Milwaukee area. The system encompasses Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Waukesha, and Washington counties. The goal was to minimize the effects of freeway traffic congestion without an increase in the overall freeway capacity.
Grice Consulting Group designed a surveillance system along routes within the project limits, and strategically planned alternative routes to reduce delays on congested freeway segments. The designs included plans for mainline detectors, closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance cameras, highway advisory radio (HAR), ramp metering systems and changeable message signs (CMS). Construction plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) for an interim system were delivered and implemented to mitigate traffic congestion during the reconstruction of interchanges along I-94 between Milwaukee and Waukesha, and along I-794.
